Estrogen Patches for Menopause
A specialist-prescribed transdermal patch worn twice a week — bioidentical estrogen absorbed through the skin, designed to ease hot flashes, night sweats, and the sleep and mood changes of the menopause transition.
Qualifying patients complete a comprehensive bloodwork panel (starting from $485, 95% refundable if our specialist determines you’re not a candidate) before your first prescription ships. Bloodwork lets our specialist confirm the protocol is safe for you and sets a baseline for monitoring.

Important Safety Information.
Who this medication is for. Estrogen Patches are a specialist-prescribed transdermal estrogen therapy worn on the lower abdomen or upper buttock and changed every three days, prescribed for adult women with menopause-related symptoms — hot flashes, night sweats, disturbed sleep, brain fog, mood changes, vaginal dryness — who meet clinical criteria after specialist review. Strength and dose are determined by your Gambit specialist based on your symptoms and bloodwork, not by self-selection. The patch delivers a steady, low dose of bioidentical estrogen through the skin, which keeps hormone levels more stable than oral estrogen and bypasses the digestive system. If you have an intact uterus, your Gambit specialist will also prescribe oral progesterone alongside the patch to protect the uterine lining — combined therapy is required when the uterus is in place.
Who shouldn’t take it.
- Anyone with a personal history of breast cancer or any other estrogen-dependent cancer.
- Anyone with undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding.
- Anyone with active or a past history of blood clots, including deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or stroke.
- Anyone with severe liver disease.
- Anyone who is pregnant, suspects they may be pregnant, or is breastfeeding.
- Anyone with a known hypersensitivity to estrogen or any component of the patch adhesive, until evaluated by your Gambit specialist.
Common side effects. The most frequently reported effects are skin redness or irritation at the application site, breast tenderness, mild bloating, headaches, and nausea, especially during the first several weeks as the body adjusts. Less commonly, some patients experience mood changes, fluid retention, or spotting and irregular bleeding — spotting is more common in patients with an intact uterus and should be reported to your Gambit specialist. Estrogen can also affect how other medications you take are processed, including thyroid hormone replacement; tell your Gambit specialist about every medication and supplement you take so the plan can be reviewed.
When to seek medical attention.
- Sudden chest pain, shortness of breath, or coughing up blood, which can signal a blood clot in the lung.
- Pain, swelling, or warmth in one leg, which can signal a blood clot in the leg.
- Sudden severe headache, vision changes, weakness on one side of the body, or difficulty speaking, which can signal a stroke.
- A new breast lump, persistent breast pain, or unusual nipple discharge.
- Heavy or unexpected vaginal bleeding, especially after a period of no bleeding.
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe upper-abdominal pain, or persistent nausea, which can signal a liver issue.
- Signs of an allergic reaction, including widespread rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing.
Monitoring. Comprehensive bloodwork is required before prescribing, and your Gambit specialist reviews hormone markers and related labs at scheduled follow-up assessments. Clinical-status check-ins happen during the first several months as the dose is fine-tuned, and ongoing specialist re-evaluation continues across the menopause transition. Cadence is set by your Gambit specialist based on your clinical picture, not by a fixed calendar.
Discuss any medications, conditions, allergies, surgical history, or pregnancy plans with your Gambit specialist. Apply the patch exactly as instructed, and follow your monitoring schedule.
How it works
Estrogen Patches deliver a steady, low dose of bioidentical estrogen through the skin, restoring the hormone signal that quiets during the menopause transition and supporting four body systems that depend on it.
Vasomotor Relief
Eases hot flashes and night sweats by steadying the temperature-regulating signal that becomes erratic when estrogen drops.
Sleep and Mood
Supports steadier sleep and a more even mood by smoothing out the night-sweat wake-ups and the hormone swings that disrupt both.
Tissue Health
Restores moisture and resilience to vaginal and urinary tissues that thin and dry out without estrogen, easing dryness and irritation.
Bone Strength
Slows the bone-density loss that begins after menopause, helping protect long-term skeletal health.

Who is eligible for Estrogen Patches?
Estrogen Patches may be appropriate for adults experiencing perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms — hot flashes, night sweats, disrupted sleep, mood shifts, brain fog, vaginal dryness — whose pattern and bloodwork support hormone therapy. Eligibility is confirmed after your initial assessment, bloodwork, and your Gambit specialist’s review, not at checkout. The eligibility fee covers your Gambit specialist’s clinical review regardless of outcome; if you skipped eligibility and went straight to comprehensive bloodwork, the comprehensive fee is 95% refundable if you’re not approved.
Which Canadian provinces is the Women’s Health program available in?
We serve patients across Canada, with active lab coverage in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, and more. Patients outside our primary provinces are typically supported through alternate lab arrangements, and our health team will confirm what’s available in your region during onboarding. Shipping windows can vary by province.
Can I use my Health Spending Account or extended health insurance?
Many patients reimburse part of their treatment through an employer Health Spending Account or private extended health insurance. Gambit doesn’t bill insurers directly — instead, we provide an itemized receipt after each charge that you can submit to your plan administrator. Coverage rules vary plan by plan, so check with your administrator before assuming a specific amount will be reimbursed.
Are there special instructions for applying an Estrogen Patch?
Yes — the routine is straightforward but the details matter. Apply a fresh patch every three days to clean, dry skin on the lower abdomen or upper buttock — not on the breasts, not on hairy or irritated skin, and not in the same spot twice in a row. Press it down firmly for about ten seconds so the adhesive seals; the patch is designed to stay on through showers, exercise, and sleep. If a patch ever lifts before the three days are up, smooth it back down or apply a new one for the rest of the cycle.
Rotating the application site each time helps prevent skin irritation, which is the most common reason patients ask to switch sites. Your Gambit health team will walk you through the routine during onboarding, and your Gambit specialist will check in early on to make sure it’s working with your skin and your week.
Do you charge differently for higher-strength patches?
Most patients begin at a lower-strength patch, and your Gambit specialist may step the strength up over time depending on how your symptoms respond and how your bloodwork tracks. Different patch strengths can be priced differently by the pharmacy, so cost can change as the strength changes — you’ll see the exact monthly cost for each step before any change is prescribed. Your Gambit health team walks you through the routine and the cost at every adjustment, so price changes never happen all at once or by surprise.
What side effects should I be aware of?
The most common side effects are local skin reactions where the patch sits — redness, mild itching, or irritation — along with breast tenderness, mild bloating, headaches, and occasional nausea, especially during the first several weeks as your body adjusts. Some patients also experience mood changes, fluid retention, or unexpected spotting; spotting is more common when the patch is paired with progesterone and should be reported to your Gambit specialist. Estrogen can also affect how other medications you take are processed, including thyroid hormone replacement, so tell your Gambit specialist about every prescription, supplement, and over-the-counter medication you take during your assessment.
Less common but more serious risks — including signs of a blood clot, signs of a stroke, breast changes, or unexpected liver symptoms — are listed in full in the Important Safety Information at the top of this page. Your Gambit specialist reviews your medical history, family history, and current medications before prescribing, and monitors your bloodwork and how you’re feeling throughout treatment.
Will I also need progesterone, and how long until I see results?
If you have an intact uterus, your Gambit specialist will prescribe oral progesterone alongside the patch — this combined approach is required to protect the uterine lining when systemic estrogen is in use. If you’ve had a hysterectomy, progesterone usually isn’t needed, and the patch is prescribed on its own. Your Gambit specialist makes that call during the review, not at checkout.
Most patients begin to notice that hot flashes and night sweats settle within the first few weeks, with sleep and mood often steadying soon after. Other improvements — bone-loss protection, ongoing tissue health — build across the menopause transition rather than landing in any one moment. Results vary based on your starting symptom pattern, the strength prescribed, and how your body responds. Your Gambit specialist will check in with you a few times within your first several months while the plan is stabilizing, and ongoing follow-ups continue across the menopause transition so the plan keeps fitting how you feel and how your bloodwork tracks. If anything changes between scheduled check-ins, you can reach out — you’re not waiting for the next calendar slot.
